Bush’s eavesdropping program “impressive” and no threat, say Bush’s best friends

What’s best about the current administration is not that they lie and manipulate - all administrations do that - it’s that they make no effort whatsoever to hide the fact that they lie and manipulate. And the mainstream press never calls them on it.

From the AP:

Members of the government board appointed to guard privacy and civil liberties during the war on terror say they’re impressed with the protections built into the Bush administration’s electronic eavesdropping program.

The five-member Privacy and Civil Liberties Oversight Board received a long-awaited briefing on the secret program last week by senior members of the National Security Agency. Yesterday two of the members said they wished the administration could tell the public more about the safeguards to ease distrust of the NSA’s monitoring of phone calls and computer transmissions.

Oh, by the way, the “government board appointed to guard privacy and civil liberties during the war on terror” consists of Bush and GOP pals like Carol Dinkins, Ted Olson and Alan Raul, a former Reagan White House lawyer.

“In fact, I think the public may have an underappreciation for the degree of seriousness the government is giving these protections,” said Raul.

And the “liberal media” just runs with it.

Gavin at Sadly, No and Glenn Greenwald at Unclaimed Territory tear it all to shreds quite nicely, however, as does Anonymous Liberal.

[…] Comedy Central has decidedto crank out at least six episodes of “Lil’ Bush: Resident of the United States,” a cartoon satire that portrays President George W. Bush and key executives in his administration as elementary school misfits. In an odd twist, Vice-President Dick Cheney will play himself, as artists found it’s literally impossible to make him any more cartoon-like. […]

[…] So remember folks, brush up on your logical fallacies, and pay attention when statements are outright lies. First of all, the mainstream media won’t do it for you, and secondly because from the Bush Administration and its admirers like Barone and DeLay, logical fallacies and lies are about all they think U.S. citizens deserve.
