Pittsburgh Steelers lose their kind of coach in Cowher
January 5, 2007 by William K. Wolfrum
For Steelers fans, there is one matter of pride that can’t be taken away from us – Pittsburgh has had just two coaches in 38 years. While virtually all other professional sports teams go through coaches like they were receptionists, the Steelers have stood outside the pack for nearly four decades.
With Bill Cowher ending his 15 years as head coach, that number will be three, and fans will wonder if the Steelers will finally join the rest of professional sports with a head-coaching turnstile.
Regardless of who the next coach is, what Chuck Noll, Bill Cowher and the Steelers did will never be matched again. Two coaches, 38 years, five Super Bowl rings.
Cowher did a great job for 15 years, and we understand it was time for him to leave, and only wish him the best in his future pursuits.
