I agree with Gracie; it is well harsh to wish death upon somebody, but I do see where you are coming from.
In reply to what Gracie said about Nicole Richie's life going downhill; how can you say that?! She's a celebrity ffs, her life's amazing.
And a celeb has admitted to being underweight; Mary Kate Olsen admitted she was anorexic and basically flaunts it.
Anna Nicole Smith died suddenly and aparently this was due to all those years she abused herself with diet pills such as Trimspa.
A model (can't remember her name) died moments after she stepped off the catwalk at Fashion Week because she had been on a diet of lettuce, then months later her sister followed in her footsteps and also died.
This shocked the world and a ban on size zero was talked about, but still, there are size zero celebrities; i don't think they'll ever go back now tbh, because of how many headlines they get for it, and quite frankly, how good they look.
This controversy will probably go on for quite some time,
Tbh, it affects me and most girls.
I agree, it isn't a good thing.

I don't think you realize that the death of one of these young ladies would have the opposite effect you're suggesting. Perhaps for normal girls, anorexia would become "uncool", but for girls with EDs, celebrities are idols, and upon their deaths they would become absolute martyrs. Girls with EDs are nearly always extraordinarily depressed, and the death of a girl due to her obsession with perfection would only elevate her to a status these young girls would positively worship. For regular, healthy girls, it would serve as a warning; for struggling girls, it would only deepen their feelings of depression and exacerbate their drives to perfection.
Also, the removal of skinny celebrities or emaciated models wouldn't put much of a dent in the number of severe anorexia cases. These girls suffer from a phobia of obesity (perhaps we should blame the government or media for pushing anti-fat and anti-obesity drives to the point where children are afraid of gaining weight), and while bony models may one day become the exception instead of the norm, girls will continue to aspire to dangerously thin.

I feel that people try wayto hard to be perfect, but the reality of it all is.. no one is perfect, models and celebrities are all surgey and anorexia, belima, and other eating disorders. As a teenager i face all of the weight strugles as well,, we have to give up... no one is perfect and people have to face the realicty thaat we are all made a certain way for a reason.

Gracie,

I admit I probably flew overboard trying to just hammer home a point. It was immediately following the Brazilian model dying here just horribly emaciated.

I completely understand that Anorexia is a disease and not something that can just be controlled. However, Hollywood and the fashion industry are downright glamorizing it and making it fashionable and so distorting women's (and men's) view of beauty as to literally force healthy women into an unhealthy lifestyle and mind frame.

I appreciate your comments and feel you were spot on.

Regards,

I think wishing one of those celebrities would die is a little harsh. Part of the reason that people become anorexic is to do with stress or trauma in their lives. Particularly childhood trauma, which is the case with Nicole Richie - her adoptive parents split up when she was a teenager and since then her live has been going downhill. Also, girls can become anorexic because they have low self esteem - maybe due to bullying or again, problems at home.
I agree totally that something needs to be done, I also agree that the death of Karen Carpenter did temporarily make girls see that being anorexic was not a cool thing in 1983. However, instead of something as drastic as one of these celebrities dying I think somebody should make these celebrities accept that they are underweight and admit that to the media. A worldwide campaign should be launched and Britain should finally, following in the footsteps of Milan and Madrid, ban skinny models from their catwalks. In my opinion all countries should do that also, but I doubt that they will.
