The Steve Austin ‘Six Million Dollar Man’ action figure - the coolest toy ever

Watching the 40 Year Old Virgin, I was hit with a rush of nostalgia when Steve Carell’s character, a toy collector, opened up a box containing a Steve Austin “Six Million Dollar Man” action figure. When Carell looked through the toy’s “bionic eye” it hit me with a rush - I had one of those, and I couldn’t have liked it any more.

It had a bionic arm, as well as a bionic eye, and wore the red polyester jump suit that was all the rage in those heady, early-70s days. At ChipRowe.com, he takes a look at all the “bionic” toys of the day. Lee Majors was totally the man back then. Married to Farrah Fawcett and starring as the “Six Million Dollar Man.”
It was nice to remember. That was a seriously kick-ass toy.

Came here from Shakes…
You’re right! This was probably the greatest action figure. I had two of them. The first one did a bionic leap from a tree and ended up breaking off a foot. The foot, complete with shoe and sock, ended up as a gag gift at my elementary school Xmas party. (”Find the rest of him and rebuild him. We know you can do it. we know you have the technology.”) The second ended up dipped in epoxy, set on fire, and running through my back yard at 60mph. (”Ahhhh! Ahhhh!” sound of car arriving in driveway “Uh oh. Dad’s home!” stomp stomp, throw dirt, toss half-melted doll behind doghouse)
I loved how you could roll up the “skin” on his arm and leg and remove the bionic modules.
Ahhhh, memories… Thanks!

Dude, I totally forgot about that. I loved that, as well.
I’m starting to wonder if I had some horrifying childhood incident that caused me to black out some of my youth. Because three days ago was the first time I thought of that toy in probably 30 years.
