Pittsburgh Steelers fans rest easy: Lawrence Timmons will be a star
April 28, 2007 by William K. Wolfrum
Taking a look at the NFL Draft, it’ll definitely be interesting to see how JaMarcus Russell develops, and see whether Calvin Johnson will be as good as advertised. Both look like guys who could truly make a mark on the league, but as always, nothing is written in stone.
Except for this: The Pittsburgh Steelers’ No. 1 pick, Florida State’s Lawrence Timmons, will become one of the top outside linebackers in the league. It is just about guaranteed. These are the Steelers we’re talking about, folks. The greatest drafting team in the history of the NFL.
The Steelers have made maybe one mistake in the last decade or so – taking Plaxico Burress ahead of Brian Urlacher in 2000. But, at the time, the Steelers needed a wide receiver, and Urlacher was still a bit of a mystery. And it’s not like Burress was a total washout for them or anything.
So with the past as my guide, it’s a sure thing that the Steelers just did a great job in replacing Joey Porter. Because Lawrence Timmons will become a standout in the NFL. Just like nearly all the Steelers’ top picks, and a hell of a lot of late picks, as well.
