The lights go out on Hugo Chavez’s Copa America, and possibly Bolivarian Revolution

Hugo Chavez’s glorious Copa America spectacular in Venezuela hit a touch of a snag — the semifinal match between Brazil and Uruguay in Maracaibo, Venezuela had to be suspended about 20 minutes into the game with Brazil up 1-0. The reason - the lights went off at José Pachencho Romero Stadium.

Needless to say, interrupting a major soccer game in South America due to not keeping the lights on is a huge blow for socialism throughout Latin America, and could possibly be the death knell for the Bolivarian Revolution.

Seriously, they take the game very seriously down here.

Update: Ok, lights back on. Game was delayed about 15 minutes. That should be enough to completely doom Chavez, however. This is Brazil-Uruguay, mind you. It’s a pretty big rivalry. And whichever nation that loses will blame Chavez for the loss. That’s tough to overcome. When it comes to football down here, they hold grudges.
