Remember when Russia and Al Qaeda grew stronger, bolder as the U.S. military was bogged down in Iraq?
July 14, 2007 by William K. Wolfrum
Well, actually that’s what’s happening right now. Enemies of the U.S. are growing stronger, while grudging allies are on their way to becoming enemies again.
Can someone please explain again how Bush and Republicans are so utterly fantastic when it comes to national security?

I liked how Chertoff said there was a gut feeling that we’ll be attacked this summer but the threat assessment is being classified because they don’t want to panic the public or whatever. This obviously means the official threat assessment says “calm and quiet for the next few months” and the loyal Bushie is just trying to give Bush a reason to fight Congress on Iraq.
Good catch Miranda. I’m surprised he didn’t just claim executive privilege about the official threat assessment.
For some reason it reminds me of that episode of Andy Griffith where Gomer gave Barney a citizen’s arrest for making a U turn.
He went running down the road hollering “citizen’s arrest! citizen’s arrest!”
Bushies: “executive privilege! executive privilege!”
me: “you guys sound like Nixon”
Oh well, that’s my odd 2 cents worth for today.
Just couple of comments on WKW’s statement :
American Establishment did not learn the lessoans of the Past.
Here’s a good one:
Vietnam presumably taught us that the United States could not serve as the world’s policeman; it should also have taught us the dangers of trying to be the world’s midwife to democracy when the birth is scheduled to take place under conditions of guerrilla war.
–Jeane Kirkpatrick, 1979
Here is the second one:
If the Americans do not want to support us anymore, let them go, get out! Let them forget their humanitarian promises!
–Nguyen Van Thieu, April 1975
Sounds familiar? (Prime Minister of Iraq, AL-Maliki, lately said the same to Americans)
We are stepping on the same rakes…. how many times ?
