It is alleged that Michael Vick was a ringleader in a huge dog-fighting operation, as well as someone who apparently gained perverse pleasure in torturing dogs. Vick pleaded not guilty to the federal charges brought against him, but with the public clamoring for his head, the NFL has basically suspended him until further notice while all his sponsors, including Nike, have done the same.

That doesn’t mean the Atlanta Falcons don’t have an alleged dog murderer in their midst, however.

Jonathan Babineaux was arrested in February of this year on a charge of felony animal cruelty. Apparently, after a fight with his girlfriend, Babineaux took her pit bull and beat it to death with his own hands.

Babineaux is currently in the Falcons pre-season camp, obviously keeping a low profile.

Simply put, however, as long as Babineaux is allowed to play with the Falcons while Vick is forced to sit out, the NFL’s and the Falcons’ treatment of Vick can only be seen as a PR ploy. It has nothing to do with ethics, or a standard of character they want from their players.

As long as Babineaux remains active, the NFL and the Falcons are little more than hypocrites whose hands were forced in the Vick case.
