If Daily Show can go to Iraq, so can George W. Bush
Suck on that, Jon Stewart.
“Bush makes surprise visit to Iraqi air base”
BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) — President Bush arrived at an air base west of Baghdad Monday on an unannounced visit, the White House said.
Bush is to meet in Iraq Monday with U.S. officials, Iraq’s prime minister and provincial tribal leaders.
He plans to meet face-to-face with top military commanders, the U.S. ambassador, Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki and provincial tribal leaders. It is the president’s third trip to Iraq.
Air Force One touched down under the blazing sun at Asad air base in Anbar province. The White House said the base was chosen because of the “remarkable turnaround” in the province.
Bush has hailed Anbar — a Sunni province west of Baghdad — as a success, citing the U.S. military’s alliance with tribal leaders in fighting al Qaeda in Iraq.
The president stopped in Iraq en route to an economic summit in Australia and ahead of a briefing in Washington September 15 by the top U.S. commander in Iraq, Gen. David Petraeus and U.S. Ambassador to Iraq Ryan Crocker.
The president was spirited out of the White House late Sunday and driven to Andrews Air Force Base, Maryland. Sixteen hours before he was scheduled to leave for the summit, Bush boarded Air Force One as it sat in a hanger and the aircraft departed after dark.
White House press secretary Tony Snow said a false schedule released for the news media on Monday was part of the security plan for the trip.
Of course, the question must be asked: Which trip to Iraq was more “faux”? Bush’s or the Daily Show’s Rob Riggle’s? A possible deciding factor? Riggle is an actual veteran.

On Sept 15th we will be treated to Pres Bush telling the American people that he’s been there and seen firsthand that there are improvements, that the surge is working. I don’t know why people would choose to believe someone who’s never served in the real military and doesn’t know anything about military strategy. That would be like me going to the General Motors factory and saying “that car is constructed 100% correctly. Every nut and bolt in place.”

BBC’s world service stated that Bush said he may reduce troop levels if progress keeps progressing so well. And why not? Trading one mad delusion for another is just a matter of changing the propaganda strategy and rewriting some talking points.
When Bush leaves office in January 08, he very much wants to be able to toot his own horn about the victory in Iraq. So, as time is running out on his disastrous tenure as President, it looks like he will have to apply the same strategy that has worked so well his entire life to the Iraq war: lie.
And he will go back to his ranch in Texas and spend the rest of his days playing golf and fishing, never giving five minutes worth of contemplation over his time in office, while the rest of us ponder in amazement these 8 years when America lost its mind.
