Bush admits to being a Democrat all along – says America needs change
November 1, 2007 by William K. Wolfrum
WASHINGTON — Taking a cue from one-time Republican blogger John Cole, President George W. Bush told a group of reporters that he, in fact, was a Democrat and has been for the past seven years.
“I think this goes to show you how twist the Democratic Party has become, in many ways,” said Bush. “And we’ve really seen it all from them. Out-of-control spending, mostly. And hate. Lots of hate.”
The comment confused reporters, many asking how this could be possible. Bush relied that he was a Republican when first elected, but secretly shifted to Democrat around November of 2001.
“I didn’t even tell the DNC about it,” said Bush. “But I was, and remain a Democrat. Do you notice that Osama bin Laden is still on the loose? That al-Qaida is stronger than ever? That we can’t even score a decisive win in Iraq? That’s because a Democrat is in office.”
Bush, who was joined by fellow Democrats Dianne Feinstein and Joe Lieberman, said that the Democrats record has been ghastly the past seven years, and that change was needed.
“Let me tell you, as a Democrat, I can’t even bring myself to work with the people of my own party. That’s how bad it’s gotten,” said Bush. “That’s why, as much as I hate to say it, right now the United States needs a change in direction. It’s time for the Republicans to take a crack at it now.”
While Bush reiterated that he would be a vibrant President during his final days, he said he would be unable to campaign for any candidates.
“The thing is, the reason you don’t see me out there campaigning is that I’m conflicted. I’m deeply troubled about the Democratic Party and feel that the best choices for President and for Congress is Republicans,” said Bush.
It remains to be seen how this situation will effect the 2008 elections. Already several prominent GOP Presidential candidates have openly disassociated themselves from Bush.
“This changes everything,” said Sen. John McCain. “I disagreed with George Bush on many things, but would always end up agreeing with him because I believed he was Republican. Now, I must say that I disagree with the things I formerly agreed with but actually disagreed with.”
For his part, Bush appeared relieved to have made the admission.
“It’s been tough keeping this a secret, but worth it,” said Bush. “Now you see what happens when Democrats run things. America needs a change. Vote Republican.”
