By passing FISA and further shredding Constitution, Congress will earn its 9% approval rating
July 9, 2008 by William K. Wolfrum
Today, Congress will earn it’s 9 percent approval rating. By passing a bill that’s only real purpose is to cover up the surveillance crimes of George W. Bush, Dick Cheney and the rest of the Executive Branch, Congress will take yet another bold step in selling out U.S. citizens, trashing the Constitution and rendering itself even more impotent.

Thank you to Glenn Greenwald, Jane Hamsher and those that have come together at Strange Bedfellows for trying their best to make the U.S. public understand exactly what it all means.

And another thank you to Senators Chris Dodd, Patrick Leahy, Russ Feingold and a handful of others for their attempts to strip retroactive immunity from the FISA bill, despite the cowardice of their partners in Congress.
We the People have utterly, completely lost control of our government. Time will tell if the results from November will change that, but history has shown us that individuals rarely give back powers once they’re so easily attained.
“Stop throwing the Constitution in my face. It’s just a goddamned piece of paper!” said Bush, when fighting to renew the Patriot Act in 2005.
And thanks to Bush and the spineless Democrats and Republicans that have run the nation, his words have become prophecy.
Today that’s what we’re left with. A goddamned piece of paper. The U.S. Constitution, is as important as a shopping list or a page of doodles.

There is no real opposition, anymore. I thought after the ’06 election that maybe, just maybe, some amongst the Dems would find their balls. It’s almost like this entire generation of political leaders in the US have no courage nor ethics, save a rare few.
