At Fox News, Shepherd Smith gets disgusted by “Joe the Plumber’s” claim that “a vote for Obama is the death of Israel”

October 28, 2008 by William K. Wolfrum

“It gets frightening some times.”

– Fox News anchor Shepherd Smith, who was visibly irritated and flabbergasted after speaking with John McCain surrogate Samuel “Joe the Plumber” Wurzelbacher, who reiterated that “a vote for Barack Obama is a vote for the death to Israel.”

The greatest line of the Fox article (and perhaps the most succinct & telling description I have yet read of the state of the McMaverick campaign):

Though “Joe the Plumber” has become a centerpiece of McCain’s campaign in the closing days of the presidential race, McCain aides told FOX News the Republican nominee does not share Wurzelbacher’s opinion on Obama’s view toward Israel.

    To review:

    1) The “centerpiece” of McMaverick’s effort to gain the leadership of United States of America is a plumber whose “credibility” rests solely on once having ambushed McMaverick’s opponent with false concerns, & then responding to the extended, thoughtful response he got by comparing Barack Obama to Sammy Davis Jr.

    2) McMaverick doesn’t really agree with what the “centerpiece” of his campaign actually, you know, says.

In other words, with the election less than a week away, McMaverick has decided to focus his attention on the oft-ignored “we think Palin’s too intellectual for us” demographic.

“Joe the Plumber” will be a top adviser in the McCain Administration. I see him as an ambassador to the UN.

It really was a Fox News first. Where a host finally just shook his head and was like “Ok, Dude, you’re a little too anti-Obama for me.”

Doesn’t it just fill you with hope and pride that McCain mentioned the guy 21 times during a debate (I’m sick of the way it has to be “fair and balanced” Obama mentioned him 4 or 5 times, all in response to McCain).

    McCain-Palin-Plumber

It’s amazing that they’ve managed to make Bush look like FDR.

Sign #8,754 that your campaign is in more than a bit o’ trouble: When your prez & v-prez candidates make people think “damn, I wish we were still nominating smart people like W & that guy who was W’s daddy’s VP.”

Sign #8,755: When one of those people pretty much admits as much on FOX NEWS.

Of course, the only people who would note the Danny Quayle connection are elitist elites who read “history books” or “pay attention to historical precedents” or, ya know, “think.”

[...] I’m thinking Shepherd Smith may be one of the first to see his headcount ratcheted down. [...]
