How could you not see that Alex Rodriguez was juiced?
February 7, 2009 by William K. Wolfrum
“I didn’t see this one coming…I felt bad for A-Rod after reading some of Torre’s new book, “The Yankee Years,” but I never thought he was juicing,” says John Amato at Crooks & Liars.
Wishing players aren’t juicing avoids the reality of it. It’s starting to get a little ridiculous, though. Maybe it’s time we treat all athletes in all sports the way we treat the NFL. Just turn a blind eye to whatever they stick in their bodies to perform better.
The media cherry-picks certain players to be appalled by (Barry Bonds, Mark McGuire, etc.), and lets others off with nary a word. And regardless of how depressing it is for long-time sports fans, the fact is, with such obscene amounts of money to be had, professional athletes will put any type of substance in their body to gain an edge. As will college athletes. As will high school athletes, etc.
Basically, it’s time for outright acceptance and legalization of performance-enhancing drugs in professional sports, or time to ban everyone who does them. This head in the sand thing has gotten silly.
