Scores to savor: Bolivia 6, Argentina 1
April 1, 2009 by William K. Wolfrum
It is with perverse joy I just watched Diego Maradona’s Argentina side get pummeled by Bolivia, 6-1, in a World Cup Qualifying match. And while losing in the high-altitude of La Paz is not an embarrassment (If the World Cup were played there, Bolivia would hoist the trophy), this game certainly was one for Maradona’s side, which included Leo Messi, Carlos Tevez, Javier Mascherano, et al.
By no means does a loss like this mean Maradona is a lousy coach. But leaving a struggling and ever-hustling Messi out there for the full 90 minutes sure doesn’t help his case.
Other WC Qualifying thoughts:
– Does John Terry ever score goals that don’t win games?
– Ebi Smolarek scored four times in Poland’s 10-0 humiliation of San Marino (population: 22). This is noteworthy as it is the first and last time I will ever write the name “Ebi Smolarek.”
– And somewhere, Borat is sobbing: Belarus 5, Kazakhstan 1.

*No* further references to Ebi Smolarek? Well, I don’t like the sound of that at all …
You forgot to add to that story that super coach MARADONA defended that games should be played in high altitude places, saying that those who try to veto games in bolivia have never ran after a ball. He actually said that forbiding games in high altitude places was ridiculous.
So I guess Argentina just sucks ass. It´s not the high altitude
