Moderate Conservatives must have courage to stop radical Conservacists
April 14, 2009 by William K. Wolfrum
For too long now, naive bleeding-heart types have proclaimed that Conservatism is an ideology of peace. Yet, compared with other mainstream U.S. ideologies, it is quite obvious that there’s is an ideology of hate.
Recent government documents have unveiled what we all know – that Extremist Conservatives, or “Conservacists,” are a danger to every American.
Understandably, moderate conservatives are taking heat for their Conservacist cousins. They tell us that the Conservacists have perverted and distorted their ideology. But moderate conservatives must do more. It is time that they gained the courage to stand up to these Conservacists and stop them.
We as a country can only do so much. It is time for moderate conservatives to take action, and put a stop to the extremist acts and dialogue of Conservacists. That is, if these “moderates” even exist.

I think a large part of the problem is that very many of us who used to identify as moderate conservative changed camps when we saw the rise of the Wingnuts.
Meghan McCain has been trying to stand out as a moderate conservative, actually. And it hasn’t flown well at all with wingnuttia. She’s anti-choice, which I find aggravating, but honestly, I give her props. Republicans would be much better off listening to her rather than Limbaugh and the right-wing theocrats.
Please shut the hell up and don’t tell us how to run our Party. We had a “moderate” run our party into the ground. His name was George Bush. He betrayed everything that Reagan and Goldwater stood for, and when history is written, you’re going to be awfully embarrassed by how similar the Bush and Obama Administrations end up being. Democrats aren’t happy until we elect leaders who roll over and play dead for Democrats. I don’t think we’re about the business of doing that.
Sorry to disappoint.
He never mentioned anything in this post about your party or any party.
Bush isn’t a moderate anything, much less a conservative.
I don’t really see how he could be blamed for harming the Republican party, however, when the Republican party sold their soul to the devil to support him.
I can see maybe being foolish and voting for him the first time, but by 2004 Republicans should have known better.
Here’s the difference: all those years whilst Bush was trashing the constitution and implementing neocon foreign policy (the doctrine of preemptive war is about as un-conservative as anything I can think of), mainstream conservatives went against their own supposed ideology and defended him through the worst of his actions. And even now, those who did not run off and pretend to be libertarians, are still Bush apologists.
But if you scroll around in this blog a little, you’ll see where Wolfrum has already called Obama out on several points he considers important. Many others who supported Obama have done the same, including Olberman of all people.
But my best wishes to the GOP. Maybe they will get back to some of those old fashioned reactionary views that has sustained their party for generations.
In addition to admiring the intelligence & thoughtfulness of your response, dgun, may I also add a healthy heapin’ of mad props for your effective deployment of the under-used & vastly under-appreciated “whilst.”
If there’s a word that needs to make a comeback in the coming years, that’s the one. Here’s hoping that the 20-teens are the Decade of Whilst!
Thanks Hugh! “Whilst” is an awesome word if not used too much.
I have also been thinking about using the word “save” like except.
For example, “I lost all my money playing craps, save the $20 I hid in the glove compartment.”
