United States Soccer just beat Spain

June 24, 2009 by William K. Wolfrum

I didn’t get to see the game due to traveling, but I am as shocked as anyone and as pleased as most. Just a stunning result over a Spain team that has been untouchable. And earning a spot in the Confederations Cup final? Truly amazing.

I guess I picked the wrong week to slam Landon Donovan and U.S. Soccer. In fact, the team has done little wrong since I hit “publish” on that post. And I couldn`t be happier.

What if the US wins whatever it is that’s a big soccer dealy? That would be awesome.

Dgun, That will be impossible. Most likely the USA will be facing Brazil and they will loose as always

Maybe so EAAW. I must admit that I’m fairly ignorant of the sport.

However, I did watch the last 45 minutes or so of the USA vs. Spain, and it seemed to me that the US was playing pretty tough defense. The goalkeeper for the US blocked a lot of shots and the (guards?) other players also played terrific defense.

I kept waiting for a cornerback to blitz and sack the opposing goalie. It seems to me that would make it easier to score.

Dgun, you should not be allowed on a soccer thread :)

Would I get a red card?
