Jake Tapper: A serious journalist stating facts and placing bullseyes
June 14, 2009
Jake Tapper, a serious journalist with fabulous hair, recently stated a simple fact on Twitter:

What makes this “fact” serious, responsible journalism, is that it simultaneously gives right-wing nutjobs more reason to kill Jews and/or black preachers. So, if you’re keeping score: Jake Tapper thinks if you use the Holocaust as satirical fodder, you were not given enough attention as a child. But if you toss out random false equivalencies that put bullseyes on peoples’ backs, it’s solid journalism.

One-Liner: A new strategy for Iran

After U.S. media gives White Supremacist time to defend killing Jews, NAMBLA leader looks to get on air to defend pedophiles
June 12, 2009
As the national discourse headed toward race relations following the bravery of Stephen Tyrone Johns at the Holocaust Museum, ABC, NBC, CBS, The Washington Post and and the Associated Prss all tried a new journalistic ploy – Let’s make sure to give time to racists to defend themselves.
The new strategy came into effect last night, as “NBC Nightly News,” gave known White Supremacist John de Nugent time to defend the attack on the Holocaust Museum by known racist James von Brunn. to attest to his pre-shooting mental state.
“At least I was able to turn some bad PR lemons into lemonade last night and yesterday, and I got to 1) explain how understandable white anger is, and 2) how Obama needs to assuage heightened white fears about gun and speech control or he will, by everything he does, provoke even more incidents,” said de Nugent, who has also made clear that he believes that “Obama does what his Jew-owners tell him to.”
“I was interviewed at length by ABC Good Morning America, ABC Nightly News, the CBS Early Show, Fox News (Sheppard Smith Report), NBC Nightly News, the Washington Post, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, Bloomberg, and Associated Press,” continued an understandably proud de Nugent, who believes the Holocaust was alive.
While most are understandably outraged by the media’s willingness to use a hateful anti-Semite as a story source, at least a few are excited about this turn of events. One of those people is Mr. X, the leader of the North American Man Boy Love Association, or NAMBLA.
In an exclusive phone interview with Mr. X (not his real name), the NAMBLA Leader said he believed now was the time for the U.S. media to embrace him as a source in pedophilia stories.
“I see where the media is going with this, and I think it’s great,” said Mr. X, speaking from an undisclosed location. “It’s about time pedophiles, racists and murderers had someone to champion their cause. We all know about victims, but what are the extremely logical and patriotic reasons that people like me rape, murder or hate.”
Mr. X went on to say that he was excited about getting media opportunities, and believed it was a sign of things to come.
“Once the U.S. media went crazy for people like Kristol and Rove, it became obvious that the news world was turned upside down,” said Mr. X. “The time for fretting over the victims is over. It is time to hail the ‘criminals.’”

GOP reports that its ethics were “kidnapped and stolen by an unidentified black couple”
June 12, 2009
The GOP may find itself in hot water after filing a report that its ethics were kidnapped and stolen by an unidentified black couple.
“Hi, we’re the Republican Party and our ethics have been stolen from us. A black couple stuck them in the trunk of their car and drove off with them,” said the GOP while reporting the loss of its ethics in a 911 call.

Following a desperate search for the lost ethics, investigators immediately unraveled the GOP’s story, as they found its ethics in a Las Vegas hotel with its pockets stuffed with lobbyist cash and its face covered in blow.
“The GOP’s ethics barely even existed when we arrived at the hotel,” one investigator said. ” It was covered in cash, cocaine, hookers, free medical supplies and other such things.”
The GOP quickly announced that the original report was the result of confusion.
“At the GOP, we’re very aware that some day things that matter to us will be taken away unidentified blacks and other minorities,” said a press release. “So we always react to that eventuality first.”
According to police reports, the GOP was looking to hide the fact that it is currently campaigning on a “small government” platform after spending the last eight years growing the size of government at a record rate. At this juncture, no charges are set to be filed, due to the elite whiteness of the GOP.
“The GOP has had it pretty tough lately,” said the investigator. “Their ethics have morphed into pure Id, and they have no idea which way is up. But keep in mind, these are pretty powerful people we’re talking about.”

One-Liner: Elections matter
June 11, 2009
The Iranian presidential election between Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Mir Hossein Mousavi is one of the biggest international stories going, but with Carrie Prejean, David Letterman and Sarah Palin in the news, many in the U.S. may not even be aware. One thing the election will surely give us? A better time line for when Israel will launch its strike.

National Schadenfreude shortage feared as “Carrie Prejean fired” rumor takes flight
June 10, 2009
This just in from the National Schadenfreude Institute: The entire nation could be out of schadenfreude by noon tomorrow, as more and more people become aware of the rumors regarding Carrie Prejean’s reign as Miss California. Via TMZ:
We’ve learned “biblically correct” Carrie Prejean will lose her Miss California USA crown today because she doesn’t play well with others.
Sources connected with the pageant tell us even Donald Trump has now had it with Carrie, because she’s violating her contract by not getting clearance to do her extracurricular stuff.
We’re also told Carrie has been a no-show for appearances she was supposed to make for the pageant organization.

China needs to go Tony Soprano on North Korea’s Christopher Moltisanti
June 10, 2009
Tony Soprano loved Christopher Moltisanti. They held a long-time and strong bond. But after years of erratic behavior, Moltisanti’s drug problems became too much. And Soprano did what he had to do.
Now, if we can just get China to do the same with the Kim Jong-Il regime.

Why we keep Ashton Kutcher contained to Twitter and practical jokes
June 10, 2009
Ashton Kutcher, star of such films as “Dude, where’s my car?” has come out strong in defense of imprisoned American journalists Laura Ling and Euna Lee, who are being held by North Korea. Kutcher, in fact, is ready to go on the offensive, as he made clear on Twitter:
This should be a national crisis. Send in blackwater
I say it’s special ops time
We have to demand that something be done. This is our country, it’s our military.
Ladies and gentlemen, Ashton Kutcher, the intellectual soul of Twitter. And for the sake of the rest of the world and the millions that could be killed in warfare with North Korea, here’s hoping Kutcher keeps his ramblings to his followers.

Matt Taibbi: Obama Must Reject Bush’s Dictator Policies
June 10, 2009
Why are more and more of George W. Bush’s policies becoming Barack Obama’s policies? Matt Taibbi explains:
The recent haggling over Guantanamo Bay is such classic Democratic Party politics, it almost makes you want to laugh. Almost, except that it’s, you know, revolting. Eight years of Clintonian squirming was bad enough, but now we have Barack Obama, smoking Habeas Corpus and not inhaling it.
Why is the Gitmo decision classic Democratic Party thinking? Because when certain of us said we wanted Gitmo closed, we sort of meant a change in policy — we didn’t mean just physically closing the plant, moving the prisoners elsewhere, and leaving the policies essentially unchanged. This is what this generation of Democrats does every time: every time they come to a fork in the road, they try to take it.
There’s always some sort of semantic twist involved with their policies, an asterisk, some kind of leprechaun trick to get around doing the simple right thing. They’re all for gay rights, and then once the lights come on, they’ve basically codified the closet by ushering in Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.
They campaign against the war in Iraq, promise to get us out, and say they were against it all along — and then once they get in power, they start using words like eventually and in 4-6 years and once the situation stabilizes. Later it turns out that what they meant by being against the war all along was their conviction that we should have invaded on a Thursday instead of a Tuesday, or some such bullshit.
Read the whole thing here. And take a look at how civilized countries deal with accused terrorists by taking a look at Glenn Greenwald’s latest.

Coming in 2010: Californians to vote on how to get rid of all the sick, homeless people littering the streets
June 10, 2009
Swept in on a wave of conservative economic theory and the fact that he took steroids and starred in movies, Arnold Schwarzenegger has taken a state in economic turmoil, and turned it into a state in a full-fledged economic catastrophe. Now, all the stars are aligned for some serious beast slaying. From McClatchey:
Could California become the first state in the nation to do away with welfare?
That doomsday scenario is on the table as lawmakers wrestle with a staggering $24.3 billion budget deficit.
County welfare directors are “in shock” at the very idea of getting rid of CalWORKs, which has been widely viewed as one of the most successful social programs in the state’s history, said Bruce Wagstaff, director of the Department of Human Assistance in Sacramento.
“It’s difficult to come up with the right adjective to react to this,” Wagstaff said. “It would be devastating to the people we serve.”
H.D. Palmer, a spokesman for the state Department of Finance, said California is in an unprecedented fiscal situation that has made all programs, from education to human services, vulnerable to deep and painful reductions.
Well, let’s see if the Libertarian fantasyland ensues. More like, though, Californians won’t be voting on Gay Marriage and paying more taxes in 2010. They’ll be voting on how to get so many sick and homeless people off the streets.
