NASA on Humans & Climate Change

May 5, 2010 by

From NASA’s Earth Observatory, a detailed look at why the vast majority of scientific minds on the planet believe that climate change is a result of human activity.

A snippet:

Finally, scientists know that carbon dioxide is a greenhouse gas and that it is released into the air when coal and other fossil fuels burn. Paleoclimate data show that atmospheric carbon dioxide levels are higher than they have been in the past 800,000 years. There is no plausible explanation for why such high levels of carbon dioxide would not cause the planet to warm.

I wouldn’t expect that climate-change deniers will change their minds due to NASA, of course. It’s not like they’re rocket scientists or anything.

As with the “fossils” that allegedly “prove” that the Earth is actually more than 6,000 years “old,” I have little doubt that this so-called “paleoclimate data” about this supposed “atmospheric carbon dioxide levels” is merely another creation by God that was put here on Earth to test our faith.

Fer cryin’ out loud, Bill, what’s it gonna take for you to finally See the Light and Embrace the Truth? I mean, they’ve discovered Noah’s Ark like five times in six different locations in the past decade or two alone, & you’re *still* trying to promote this “science” thing?

The “God hid fossils to test our faith” may possibly be the greatest theory ever, as far as I’m concerned.

Wow. I have to say, as a skeptic, you really suck. You justify your position with an appeal to authority (NASA), citing irrelevant credentials (rocket science).

Then, of the only two points you though was worth quoting; the first, “Paleoclimate data show that atmospheric carbon dioxide levels are higher than they have been in the past 800,000 years” is a Non Sequitur. For those (like myself) arguing it has not been demonstrated CO2 levels are causing warming, the history of CO2 levels is irrelevant.

The second, “There is no plausible explanation for why such high levels of carbon dioxide would not cause the planet to warm”, is an argument from ignorance, with a dash of circular reasoning.

The reasoning seems to go like this:

    a) The world is warming
    b) CO2 levels are higher
    c) There is no reason why CO2 can’t be the cause
    d) Therefore, CO2 is the cause.

Finally, there are those of us who believe people like Mann, rather than being a conspirator, is simply too wrapped up in his work and a victim of his own bias. Please don’t lump us all in with conspiracy theorists, as I have seen you are wont to do in some of your other posts.
