Lebron

Whatever LeBron James does, or doesn’t do in the next few days will be the most important thing or non-thing ever.

Factoid

LeBron James and Tiger Woods share the same birthday – Dec. 30.

News

Day 76: It’s Day 76 of BP’s Oil Disaster. I wonder if the media will have a lot of “The Oil Spill at 100 Days” stories like they did for Obama. They could look at the spill, see if it’s kept its promises, etc.

Galveston, oh Galveston: Tar balls are reaching Texas. British Petroleum neither confirming nor denying involvement.

A War of Word: It would seem Israel could use an ally in Turkey but what the Hell do I know except it’ll all end in tears for pretty much everyone involved.

Sports

Busted: It’s starting to look like thinks just aren’t going to work out for JaMarcus Russell.

Juninho Busts on Dunga: A member of the 2006 Brazilian National Team, Juninho Pernambuco joined in on the bashing of former Brazil coach Dunga.

Uruguay and Holland: So it’s Holland vs. Uruguay with the winner earning a shot at the golden globe. Uruguay has a “team of destiny” thing going on while Holland is just a very good team. Advantage: Arjen Robben will be on the field will Uruguay talisman and scorer Lupe Suarez won’t for his controversial hand ball against Ghana. Prediction: Holland, 3-1.

Blogs

Pharyngula: Huffpo. Creationist. Nazis. Mix together and flush.

Crooks and Liars: Republicans will talk deficit, but not jobs.

Ezra Klein: Shockingly, BP lied about how much oil it was containing.

Americans for Tax Reform: Six months until history’s biggest tax hike. No word if they are coming for your guns.

Alan Colmes: Hang a banner, go to jail.

Jack Welch – a $700-million populist spokesman

July 5, 2010

Jack Welch – former CEO of General Electric, Net worth, $720 million – had this to Tweet recently:

I wish the President would stop dividing us..Every day he has a new villain..bank execs, insurance companies, doctors, hedgefund managersetc

Sure, Jack, it’s the President that’s dividing us. It couldn’t be preachy people that are worth 30,000 times an average worker makes that divides some.

Hot Dog
It’s a Hot Dog!

Odd News

Eating Anarchy: Competitive eater Joey “Jaws” Chestnut won the annual Coney Island “Stuff your Face With Hot Dogs” thing, his fourth victory in the event. Chaos later ensued, when legendary eater Takeru Kobayashi – who is starting his own eating league, I think – crashed the party and was later arrested. Dear Lord, we are stupid people.

Lady Gaga rules Facebook: Hey, someone has to, right?

News

No News from the Gulf: Well, at least now it”s not just British Petroleum that’s keeping the media away from the Gulf. Now the President is blocking access. Must be some al Qaedians down there.

How Much is this Gonna Cost?: So far, the only steady coverage from BP is how much this will run them. They say they’re up to $3 billion in claims.

Petraeus in Afghanistan: The War in Afghanistan has reached a critical moment. Luckily, we’ve been practicing nine years for this.

Sports

European Domination: About a week ago, I was going to gloating write that several teams from South America and two teams from North America were alive in the World Cup. Kinda glad I didn’t do that, as with Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay falling, South America is left with one team – Uruguay – to go up against European powerhouses Germany, Holland and Spain. Unfortunately for Uruguay, Lupe Suarez and his hands will be on the bench in its next match.

Maradonas Gone Wild: I fell a lot better about writing this post now that Diego Maradona is running around Germany yelling at German fans.

Boxing on Internet: Wanna see Universum Box Promotions’s latest fight card, as well as past shows including the Klitschko Brothers and Dariusz Michalczewski. Then UBP’s channel on YouTube is a place to visit.

Blogs

DagBlog: How to lose a counterinsurgency, Part I.

Shakesville: An open thread hosted by a Sigg water bottle. God. I love Paul the Spud.

LitBrit: On Sarah Palin’s falsehoods and the audacity of committing non-sexist, non-partisan journalism.

Blue Gal: Fran And Driftglass wax supreme about the economy and other things in this week’s podcast.

Brock Lesnar chokes out Shane Carwin for UFC Super-heavyweight title

July 3, 2010

For a moment in the first round of their UFC 116 Main Event, following a Shane Carwin right uppercut, the much ballyhooed Brock Lesnar reacted badly. The big man, obviously ultra-aware of the power in Carwin’s hands, staggered away like a hurt animal, looking vulnerable. Carwin jumped on the chance but couldn’t ground-and-pound a dazed Lesnar into submission, with Lesnar regaining his confidence.

By the second round, with Carwin still exhausted from the first, Lesnar got Carwin to the ground and quickly and efficiently ended it with a choke hold, as Carwin tapped out for his first UFC loss. With the win, Lesnar retains his UFC Super-Heavyweight title and wipes out the ïnterim “title” Carwin won after Lesner was held up due to injuries.

The fight had a nearly Ali-Frazier vibe about it, with the exception of having any cultural significance whatsoever. Nonetheless, Carwin represented the best Lesnar could fight and questions were being asked. But this was a night of answers for Lesnar.

Despite a bit too much respect for Carwin’s power – that almost got him knocked out – Lesnar did a solid job in tightening his roll as the “Toughest man in the world. After allowing Carwin to take control in the first round, his high-energy ground attack proved too much. It was, thus far, a career-defining victory for Lesnar.

Dana White and the UFC put together a very strong card, as well. hile not ringing with grand names, the competition was excellent.

The always exciting Chris Leben got a tough win by submitting Yoshihiro Akiyama. It was Leben’s second win in three weeks. Being that he just bailed out White big time, look for Leben to get a big fight next, he won’t disappoint, regardless.

Stephan Bonnar lived up to his nickname “American Psycho” giving and taking as much as could humanly accept before finally pummeling Polish tough man Krzysztof Soszynski.

Also on the undercard, The Ultimate Fighter 10″ runner-up Brendan Schaub kocked out Chris Tuchscherer within a minute, Ricardo Romero submitted Seth Putrezeli, and George Sotiropoulos decisioned Kurt Pellegrino.

Happy Wolfrum
A New study says 85% of you are going to die before you want. Enjoy your youth.

Wolfrum’s World

A sturdy attention span is not something our national media can claim. Which is why a story like the British Petroleum oil disaster is not for the, Look for more and more oil from the Gulf of Mexico and less and less media coverage. See more in my story at Alan Colmes’ Liberaland.

Climate Change:

Climategate? No such thing.

A Compliant Media: How to avoid having people call waterboarding torture? Make sure the media never calls it that.

Taliban Bombing: Experts say it had nothing to do with the recent Rolling Stone story, just that they’re always at war.

Sports

Pele vs. Maradona: It’s not a World Cup unless Diego Maradona picks a fight with Pele.

Tiger Woods, Ya’ll: Wasn’t only a year ago and being Tiger woods was great? Now he’s in a steroid investigation and his wife’s about to get paid.

Wolfrum’s Word II

I wonder where all the pro-torture gang was when the Russian spies were busted. Sure, they admitted everything, but you don’t know everything until you electrode someone’s genitalia.

Quote of the Day

“They’re holding the American economy hostage in the most obvious political ratfuck since the Nixon years, only this time, the stakes are deadly serious. Your job. Your money. The future of the economy. They’re sabotaging all of it.”

Mel Gibson announces he’s mostly OK with light-skinned Latinas

July 1, 2010

Having already made his views on Jews clear in an earlier rant, actor Mel Gibson is now in trouble for making derogatory statements towards Blacks in a recent taped tirade. In the tape, Gibson attacks Oksana Grigorieva, the mother of one of his many, many children, for her choice of clothing.

Hours afterward, Gibson came forward with a prepared statement.

“First of all, if you’re white, God Bless you,” said Gibson, a tear slowly working down his cheek. “I’m not all about hate. In fact, I like light-skinned Latinas quite a bit. If they’re Christian. You know, like Christina Aguilera.”

Gibson refused any questions and said he was busy making his next movie about a tolerant man who comes forth and saves a village of savages.

The Plan to ignore the BP Oil Disaster until it went away hasn’t worked out.

New

Earnings Going Down: Supply and demand, baby.

British Petroleum is No. 1: They had no plan and didn’t work together as a team, but this rag-tag group has spilled more oil than anyone else.

Obama mean to Republicans: This will never stand.

Sports

Federer Loses: Federer’s loss at Wimbledon yesterday was the only actual sporting match that mattered. Everything else was LeBron James rumors (Atlanta Hawks*). Even the World Cup is mostly just squawking
