This is all the education some can afford
July 2, 2012 by William K. Wolfrum

Mitt Romney’s theory that kids should “get as much education”as they can afford” is highly unoriginal. Many nations have that philosophy. Like here in Brazil where kids will quit school in the third grade so they can get a job begging.

those were my thoughts when I heard the comment only the kids in the picture were my children and grandchildren and it scares the shit out of me
Well said.
The suggestion that children should get as much education as they (and/or their families) can afford is a merely a recipe for the ossification and self-perpetuation of the educational caste system which is already well under way in this country — especially if the costs of higher education continue to skyrocket. The wealthiest families would be still able to send their children to the most selective schools — if necessary, by making use of “legacy candidacy” and/or the use of endowments as an insurance policy (or a bribe) to make certain their darling progeny are accepted — while other equally if not more worthy students are denied the education their efforts and intelligence deserve because they can’t afford it. Graduates from preferred schools will, of course, have an advantage over graduates from other schools when it comes to competing for the best jobs with the best salary…which means that they will be in a good position to transfer these advantages to the net generation by being able to afford to send their children to the best schools…and this continues from generation to generation.
With all due respect, did anyone really expect anything better from a plutocrat like Romney…a man who’s been a child of privilege nearly all his life, who has had access to the kind of opportunities that most people can only dream about? One of his biggest shortcomings (and that of most politicians today) is that he thinks this is normal because he’s never really experienced anything else. Unfortunately, like far too many people, he’s so egocentric that he’s never bothered to consider the possibility that other people might not share his experience and that what seems perfectly common and normal to him is not common or normal for everyone else (or perhaps even most people).
Bluestocking~

well, if they can’t get the education, maybe their dad, through his blind trust (??), can give them 10 million dollars in start up money for their company. Most people would be ultra successful if they made $10 milllion while Romneys kid gets 10 million in start up money..
